The Public Research Institute (PRI) at San Francisco State University (SF State) was founded in 1984 with a mission of public service, education, training, and research in the public interest. PRI provides a broad spectrum of research services to government agencies, non-profit organizations, community groups, and academic researchers throughout the Bay Area and California.

Our professional staff has experience and expertise designing telephone, face-to-face interview and web-based surveys; conducting in-depth interviews and focus groups; qualitative observation and coding; statistical analysis of quantitative data; GIS cartography; and data interpretation and report-writing.

PRI draws upon the expertise of scholars on the SF State campus and in other academic institutions to conduct research in public health, public services and policies, and on strategies for disseminating data and social science methods to neighborhoods and communities.
