Procedural Justice and Effective Court Practices in Small Claims Court

Description:  Assess and evaluate (a) litigants’ perceptions of procedural justice, (b) effective case representation practices, and (c) the role of self-help centers and other forms of prior legal consultation. A telephone survey of 800 participants who have filed or defended a small claims case in a California court will be used to evaluate the litigants’ recognition and use of these services, their perceptions of service availability, and their satisfaction with the services.
2007 California Vietnamese Adult Tobacco Use Survey

Description:  Assess tobacco use by male and female adult Vietnamese Californians, which includes smoking history and current consumption, secondhand smoke exposure, smoking cessation, attitudes, and exposure to media messages regarding smoking. PRI is administering the telephone survey in Vietnamese and English to 1,000 men and 1,000 women.
Liver Cancer Control Interventions for Asian Americans

Description:  Phone survey of 1600 Vietnamese adults residing in California, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. The purpose of the survey is discover the rate of hepatitis B screening and associated factors among Vietnamese Americans, to design a multimedia campaign to promote hepatitis B screening, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign in a controlled trial.

M-RISP (Minority Research Infrastructure Support Program

Description:  The Minority Research Infrastructure Support Program was established by the National Institute of Mental Health to increase the capacity of minority institutions and their faculty to conduct rigorous mental health-relevant research. PRI's annual evaluation of the program addresses implementation and outcomes, particularly as they relate to the following four questions: (1) How has program involvement affected the productivity, teaching, performance, and career satisfaction of current and past participants? (2) Which activities have been the most and least beneficial to participants? (3) How can the implementation of the program be improved? And, (4) How, if at all, has program implementation of participation impacted the SF State campus community?

PRI is conducting data collection, management, and analysis as well as making recommendations for the improvement of methodology, evaluation instruments, and other program activities.
Improving Alcohol Consumption Self-Report Measurement

Description:  This methodological study investigates sources and kinds of errors in self-report measures of alcohol consumption, specifically, retrospective summary drinking pattern measures for use in epidemiological and services research. The study (n=500) compares survey-based self-reports (a new diary format including innovative serving-size and ethanol-content assessment techniques) and a non-invasive physiological measure (a wrist-worn transdermal alcohol sensor) that is used to validate the self-reports.
Quality Improvement in Solo and Small Group Ethnic Physicians Practices
